Ans: Democracy means a government ruled by the people. According to Abraham Lincoln, democracy is the government ' of the people ', ' by the people ', and 'for the people '.
2. Why are political parties important?
Ans: Political parties are important because they keep the public informed about the government's various policies. They act as a link between the government and the people.
3. What is the work of the Election Commission?
Ans: The Election Commission ensures that every aspect of the election process is managed freely and fairly.
4. Give the achievements of the Glorious Revolution of 1688.
Ans: The Glorious Revolution of 1688 in England established a constitutional form of government based on the Rule of Law.
5. Who forms the government in India? Describe the different forms of government.
Ans: The party that gets the maximum votes form the government in India.
The different forms of government are:
Parliamentary Form of Government: In the Parliamentary form of government the Prime Minister is the real head of the government who is elected by the people and is the leader of the majority party. The President is the nominal head.
Presidential Form of Government: In Presidential form of government, the Presidnet is elected directly by the people. The President is the real head of the Government. The Parliament has no control over the President.
Unitary Form of Government: In a Unitary form of government, the states are controlled by the central government. The states don't hold much power and most decisions are taken by the centre. In an emergency, the centre can take all the power from the state.
Federal Form of Government: In a Federal form of Government, there is a clear division of power between the centre and states. The centre and state are independent of each other.
6. What is the difference between Direct and Indirect Democracy?
Ans: In Direct Democracy, the people elect their representatives directly in a mass meeting while in Indirect Democracy, the people elect their representatives through voting done by a secret ballot.
