Ans: The population distribution in the world is uneven because some parts are so suitable to human life that the density of population is very high.

Ans: South East Asia is thickly populated because it has a favorable climatic condition, fertile soil for the development of agriculture, level terrain and good network of roads and railway lines.

3. Why is Sahara thinly populated?
Ans: Sahara is thinly populated because it is a desert region.

4. Explain how climate affects the distribution of population.
Ans: Climate affects the distribution of population by that only the areas with favorable climate attract settlement.

5. Write a brief note on the growth of population?
Ans: During the early periods of human history the growth of population was very slow and the people were leading a nomadic life. Scarcity of food and spread of diseases were the main causes of slow growth. When people took up to permanent farming and agriculture developed in the river valleys. Population began to grow rapidly during the 19th century because of better medical facilities.

1. Describe the distribution of population in the world.
Ans: The distribution of population in the world is not uniformly distributed. It is unevenly sprinkled over different parts of the world. There are certain places where the climatic conditions are favorable, there are fertile soil for the development of agriculture, level terrain, and good network of roads and railways. Therefore these areas have a high population. While the areas that lack all these features have a low population.

2. Explain the factors affecting the density of population?
Ans: The factors affecting the density of population are: 
    i. Relief of land plays a dominant role to influence the population distribution. Plains attract population while mountainous areas, bad lands, rugged lands repel population.
    ii. Climate is another important factor. Only areas with favorable climate attract settlement.
    iii. Fertility of soil attracts people. Fertile soils are the support base for agriculture.
    iv. Development of industries is another factor. Industries provide jobs and hence attract people, thus increasing density of population.
    v. Religious places, development of education, medical facilities and development of mining are some other factors which control population distribution.

3. What is the impact of population growth on the economic development of a country?
Ans: The impact of population growth on the economic development of a country are:
    i. High growth rate of population affects the food supply.
    ii. High growth rate gives rise to housing problems also.
    iii. Water supply also becomes a problem when the growth rate is high.
    iv. High growth of population leads to problems of schooling for children, problem of medicine, unemployment and social crimes.
    v. Population growth leads to the destruction of forests and other resources which causes environmental degradation.
