Ans: Panchayat means a committee of five persons. Self-Governance at the village level is called the Panchayat.
2. Define Panchayat Raj.
Ans: The Panchayati Raj system is a three-tier system suggested by the Balwant Rai Mehta Committee. It aims at promoting self-government in the villages of India.
3. Who elects the Gram Sabha?
Ans: All the inhabitants of the village who are 18 years and above elect the Gram Sabha.
4. Who is the head of the Gram Panchayat?
Ans: Pradhan or Sarpanch is the head of the Gram Panchayat.
5. Who elects the Pradhan?
Ans: The Gram Sabha elects the Pradhan.
6. What is Nyaya Panchayat?
Ans: The Nyaya Panchayat has been set up as a form of village court, which dispenses justice and settles minor disputes of the villagers.
7. How are the members elected to Municipalities?
Ans: The persons of the city who are 18 or above elect the members of the Municipality.
