VI. Answer the following questions briefly:

    1. Attempt a classification of industries on the basis of its size and explain its types.
Ans: A classification of industries on the basis of its size:
    a. Cottage Industry: The cottage industry is a type of Household Manufacturing unit in which the members of a single-family work in their homes with ordinary tools, to process the raw material. Only little amount of money is required to set up a cottage industry. The main articles made in the cottage industry are foodstuffs, pottery, shoes, ropes, etc.
    b. Small Scale Industry: When a cottage industry starts expanding and begins employing laborers with the increased use of machines and power, it becomes a small scale industry. The main products produced in the small scale industry are electronics, metal products, wooden crafts, etc.
    c. Large Scale Industry: The Large scale Industry involves the use of huge machines that operate with power. A large number of workers. A huge amount of capital investment with the complexity of  Management is required. The finished products of this industry are Iron and Steel, Aircraft industry, Shipbuilding industry, etc.

    2. Classify industries on the basis of raw material and give a brief account of each category.
Ans: Industries on the basis of raw material are: 
    1. Agro-based Industries: All the industries which derive their raw material from agricultural sources are called agro-based industries. Examples are the cotton textile industry, jute textile industry, sugar industry, etc.
    2. Mineral-based Industries: Mineral-based industries are those industries that derive their raw material through mining. Examples are the iron and steel industry, aluminum industry, automobile industry, etc.
    3. Pastoral-based Industries: All industries that derive their raw material from animals or animal products are termed Pastoral-based industries. Examples are leather goods industries, shoemaking industries, dairy industries, etc.
    4. Forest-based Industries: All the industries that derive their raw material from the forests or plant life are called forest-based industries. Examples are sports goods industries, furniture industry, paper industry, etc.

VII. Distinguish between the following pairs:

    1. Public sector and Private sector industry.
Ans:
Public SectorPrivate Sector
Public sector is owned and managed by the state ot its agencies.This type of industry is owned and managed by private individuals or group of individuals.
Examples: Durgapur Steel Plant, Bharat Heavy Electricals, etc.Examples: Tata Iron and Steel industry, Reliance Industries etc.

All the industries which derive their raw materials from agricultural sources are called Agro-based industry.Those industries which derive their raw materials through mining.
Examples: Cotton textile industry, jute textile industry, etc.Examples: Iron and Steel industry, Aluminum Industry, etc.
