    1. What do you learn from the ancient Indian epics?

Ans: We learn from the ancient Indian epics that these were not just good stories but an account as well of the teachings of ancient Hindu sages.

    2. What do Jaina texts contain?

Ans: The Jain texts consider various arguments for the existence of a creator of the universe and reject them.

    3. Throw some light on the architecture in Mauryan times.

Ans: The early Mauryan buildings and works of art were mostly wooden. Wood was the basic material of Mauryan architecture.

        The use of burnt bricks was also known to the ancient Magadhans. Houses were provided with pillars, windows, and stairs. The cities had well-planned streets. The walls of the buildings were often decorated with paintings that included figures of human beings, creepers, flowers, animals and birds, mountains, and sea.

        The Stupa formed an important part of the architectural achievement of Mauryan history. The pillars are said to be the masterpieces of Mauryan art.

    4. Write a short note on architecture in South India.

Ans: In South India, towards AD 700, the Pallava dynasty introduced the Dravida style temple in a number of pyramidal raths (Temples) at Mahabalipuram. An enormous cliff-face at the site is carved with a life-size representation of gods, men, and beasts, including the elephant family. The Kailasanatha temple at Kanchipuram is a fully realized temple complex with a towering sanctuary and mandapa.

    5. What was India's contribution to Mathematics?

Ans: India's contribution to Mathematics is the concept of Zero.

    6. "The science of medicine originates in ancient India." Elaborate.

Ans: The science of medicine originates in ancient India as Ayurveda. Ancient scholars of India like Atreya and Agnivesa have dealt with the principles of Ayurveda as long back as 800 BC. Their works and developments were consolidated by Charaka into a treatise of ayurvedic principles and practices, Charaka Samahita. It deals with a variety of matters covering physiology, digestion, metabolism, and so on. 

        Advances in the field of medical surgery were also made in ancient India, including plastic surgery, extraction of cataracts, and even dental surgery.
